There will be a few big changes happening next week at the Union Station that are worth mentioning. The Amtrak Trains are moving out of Union Station to their temporary home at 21st and Wewatta on February 1st. The trains will not move back into Union Station until the spring of 2014. Additionally, the pedestrian tunnel that takes you from the Wynkoop side of the station to the light rail will be closing on February 1st. Pedestrians can use the 16th Street Shuttle or sidewalk to get to and from the light rail.

I realize I’m a few days late getting this posted but it was a great event! Last Thursday was the Riverfront Park 2011 Homeowner Kick-Off Party. Siri Sellers, head of concierge for the neighborhood and I hosted a party celebrating the New Year. The party was held in the main train hall of Union Station on the mezzanine level and about 150 neighborhood residents joined us. It was a great night with much conversation about the current market and the redevelopment of Union Station. We had delicious food from Zengo and beverages from Little Raven Vineyards. The party was sponsored by the Riverfront Park Community Foundation. Each time a property is transferred within the community, a .5% assessment is made to this foundation. This money funds several different non-profit organizations but also goes towards making the Riverfront Park Neighborhood a better place to live. The Riverfront Park Community Foundation sponsors several different homeowner events throughout the year and we are looking forward to our next event, the annual ski trip! One of the best things about living in Riverfront Park is the incredible community. The different events and socials help make this a tight-knit community and there is something for everyone. I can honestly say, you would love living here!
Denver Big Air was a ski and snowboard competition that was held Tuesday and Wednesday night in Civic Center Park. A huge ramp that was 101 feet tall, 300 feet long, and 80 feet wide was constructed to showcase some of the best skiers and snowboarders in the world! Tuesday night featured the skier and had about 7,000 people purchase tickets. The second night featured the snowboarding and sold about 14,000 tickets. The crowd was full of energy as they chanted the names of their favorite athletes and the backdrop couldn’t have been more beautiful. The jump framed the City and County building of Denver. Everyone was impressed by the event and is hopeful that it will return for a second season. If you missed it, don’t worry, it’s set to air on NBC this weekend.
I have just added a new feature to my website. I get asked frequently about short sales and foreclosures in the neighborhood. I have now added a link that will pull up all active short sale listings in the Riverfront Park Neighborhood. It’s located on the right side of the page, under Riverfront Park. It’s called “All Riverfront Park Short Sales“. There are a lot of steps involed in purchasing a Short Sales but there can be great reward. If you would like to learn more about the Short Sale process and opportnities, please feel free to contact me!

The gas prices in Colorado are creeping up to the $3.00 a gallon mark. The average national price of gas is already hovering around $3.12. Colorado always has one of the lowest prices in the nation but it looks like we will hit $3 before Memorial Day. Last year, there was an increased demand in the state for larger SUV’s. Experts say the closer to the $3 mark will start to change that trend. People will start buying more Hybrid and fuel efficient cars to save money. Another solution to the pain at the pump is to live closer to work! A good majority of our working homeowners are able to walk or ride their bikes to work! Just think of what you would do if you weren’t commuting! Adding hours to your day would be a nice change to traffic and gas prices! Let me know if you want to explore a move to the city, I would love to help.
Last week a huge crane was put in place for the construction of the DaVita building. Located on the East side of the Millennium Bridge, it will be fascinating to watch this new building join the skyline. It wasn’t very long ago that DaVita announced their plans to move their headquarters to Denver and now the new building is becoming a reality. It’s exciting to think that one of the main reasons DaVita chose this location was because of the incredible amount of transportation going in with the Union Station Redevelopment. They are the first of hopefully several Fortune 500 companies to relocate their companies to Denver.
