Employee Appreciation Week

Monday will start the 3rd annual Downtown Denver Employee Appreciation Week.  There are events, prizes, giveaways and happy hours scheduled every day next week.  You can still sign up for the Ping Pong Tournament, Corporate Tug-of-War or the Downtown’s Got Talent!  I’m personally excited for the “Larimer Square is just Peachy” where the restaurants are handing out fresh peaches and peach recipes and the Pinkberry Swirl Break!  I hope to see you there.  Don’t forget it goes from Monday the 25th through Saturday the 30th.  This event is presented by Kaiser Permanente and produced by the Downtown Denver Partnership to celebrate downtown Denver’s unique work environment.

Light Rail Closures

The light rail at Union Station will be shut down for the next three weeks as they make the transition to the new station located parallel to the Consolidated Main Line.  Tomorrow, July 23rd, the C and E lines will stop there service at the 10th and Osage Station.  At that station you will be able to change to the F, D or H trains that will take you to 18th and California or there will be busses that will shuttle you to Union Station and the other stops that are closed along the way.  The new station is set to open on August 14th.  It will be a little more challenging to get to LoDo over the next few weeks, but to see the first step of the redevelopment completed is an incredible accomplishment!

Riverfront Park Fashion Show

The Riverfront Fashion Show is back for its 8th year on Saturday, August 13th.  Over 1,400 of Denver’s most stylish will join in the fun.  This year, the Denver Health Foundation is the beneficiary with proceeds going towards women’s health education, access to screening and treatment programs and outreach to Denver’s medically underserved women.  The amazing food will be provided by Fogo de Chao, Table 6, Zengo and Happy Cakes.  The designer has yet to be announced, but with previous designers like Betsy Johnson, Catherine Malandrino and Sue Wong, I’m sure it will be impressive.  Tickets are selling fast, so go to and grab one before they are gone.

15th Street Improvements

There are some big infrastructure improvements coming to the Lower Highlands.  The City and County of Denver and CDOT have combined two projects into one.  On Central Street, just across the highway from Riverfront Park, a 10-foot wide concrete bike/pedestrian trail will be built.  Currently, it is just dirt and weeds that exist on the East side of Central.  The new sidewalk and landscaping will connect 15th Street to 20th along with the Highland Bridge.  This will give the only three connections between the Lower Highlands and Downtown a much needed facelift.  Additionally, the 15th Street bridge over 1-25 will be completely rebuilt.  It will have much wider sidewalks and fences and lights that match those of the 20th Street bridge.  All of this work is scheduled to be completed by late 2013 and will cost approximately $23 million.
